Dr. Federici is internationally known for her comprehensive team training, program development, and clinical consultation, predominately in the area of DBT and eating disorders. She has provided more than 100 clinical workshops in Canada, the United States, Europe, and South America. Dr. Federici has worked with therapists and teams in private practice, hospital-based mental health programs, as well as universities and colleges settings. She is known for her highly engaging and dynamic presentation style.

Consulting / Training

Anita works closely with administrators, clinical managers, key stakeholders, and teams to implement evidence-based treatment. She is highly sought-after for her ability to redesign inpatient and residential treatment programs to enhance capacity to treat multi-diagnostic and complex patient populations. A DBT trainer and consultant, Anita can help your team move toward DBT adherence and/or to work within a DBT-informed model across levels of care (e.g., inpatient, day programs, intensive outpatient).

An example of the type of support she offers:

  • To develop a DBT stream that aligns with the full compliment of services and levels of care across the hospital system.
  • For DBT to be the foundational framework across emergency services, inpatient, day treatment, and outpatient care.
  • To establish a continuum of care that uses consistent DBT language, skills, and approaches, including the management of complex difficult to treat cases.
  • Training in using DBT theory and strategies to reduce readmission rates.

Dr. Federici is currently working intensively with the following teams:

  • Edgewood Health Network
  • Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital
  • William Osler Hospital
  • Chigamik
  • Trillium Health Partners
  • Humber College

She has also provided webinars and talks related to managing anxiety and emotions during the Covid pandemic, teaching high-school students about emotional health and mindfulness, and addressing body image concerns in the postpartum period.

Her workshops and clinical consulting span a wide range of topics including: enhancing therapist’s competence in evidence-base care, research methods, program development, program evaluation, DBT and CBT implementation, trauma-related disorders, and eating disorder treatment. For more information on her training and consulting experience, please see Anita’s CV here

I enlisted Dr. Federici’s expert clinical expertise to facilitate highly specialized eating disorder treatment training and mentoring with members of our provincial network. Her unique and one-of-a-kind expertise is sought after to help fill important service delivery gaps in our system of eating disorder care. Specifically, our provincial network is indebted to Dr. Federici for not only pursuing a “road less traveled” – seeking specialized treatment training in modalities designed to enhance client-centred care and innovative ways to treat co-morbid conditions; she also set out on a course to provide cutting edge clinical teaching, training, supervision, and mentoring in these modalities to optimize capacity among care providers to provide responsive and high quality care.

Just wanted to let you know – I had attended your session on Dialectic Behaviour Therapy through waypoint (held at the midland cultural centre) a number of years ago – I was mighty impressed with your level of expertise! It was most excellent!

Psychiatrist, Waypoint

“….we ranted and raved to our manager when we got back and are totally stoked about doing a pure DBT program within EDP starting next fall …if not sooner. You are a great presenter (and being able to hold a room’s attention on the second day late afternoon speaks to it!)… the timing was perfect”

Larry Dahmer, Health Sciences North

Thank you for being a wonderful mentor who so gracefully balances the dialectic between empathetic understanding and giving me the push I need to access my own skills during times of clinical and personal challenges. You have a uniquely genuine style about you that I look up to greatly and am always trying to channel in my own practice. I thoroughly enjoyed being your supervisee and I hope the world of DBT will bring us together again at some point down the road.
