What is CBT-E?
CBT-E is a highly specialized and “enhanced” version of cognitive behaviour therapy used to treat eating disorders. It is one of the most well studied and evidence-based approaches in the field.
A few facts about CBT-E:
- It is a trans-diagnostic treatment meaning that it can be used for all types of eating disorders.
- The treatment is designed to be delivered in an outpatient setting and is highly individualized for each person. There are versions created for day treatment and inpatient programs.
- There are Adult vs Youth versions of CBT-E
- CBT-E involves an assessment phase followed by 20 – 40 weekly individual sessions in four stages.
