Life-threatening and under-diagnosed, it takes an average of seven years for individuals with an eating disorder to receive evidence-based treatment. As the only outpatient centre focusing on comprehensive services for eating disorders north of Toronto, our team is highly trained in the assessment, advocacy, and treatment of eating disorders supporting both sufferers and caregivers.
Misunderstood and under-treated, individuals with personality disorders require specialized treatment by experts. We are the only comprehensive DBT program north of Toronto. Our team has been extensively trained to provide adherent DBT for those with personality disorder and those who struggle with regulating emotion.
Our trauma track is designed to help individuals suffering with PTSD and trauma-related injuries. We work closely with the WSIB, Military and Veterans Affairs, the Encompas Program (OPP), and first responders across the province to provide the highest standard of trauma care.
A comprehensive Psychological Assessment is the foundation for effective treatment planning. Our clinical psychologists are licensed to perform psychological testing, which will allow for an accurate diagnosis of mental health disorders and aid in the creation of a unique, individualized treatment program.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive, multi-model treatment that was originally designed to treat individuals with chronic suicidal and self-injurious behaviour. Today, it is considered the gold-standard treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and has evolved into an evidence-based treatment for disorders characterized by emotion dysregulation.
RO DBT is a ground-breaking and evidence-based treatment for individuals with emotional over-control (e.g., emotional suppression, rigid thinking patterns, inability to relax and be playful, difficulty connecting with others, avoids risks and novelty). Excessive over-control is associated with social isolation and poor interpersonal relations and it contributes to conditions like anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, chronic depression and autistic spectrum disorders.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a time-limited (e.g., 6 to 20 sessions), present-focused treatment that focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviours. From a CBT framework, problematic thoughts (“I am unlovable”) lead to painful emotions (e.g., sadness, shame) that in turn lead to maladaptive behaviour (e.g., isolation). CBT is the treatment of choice for mood and anxiety disorders.
CBT-E is an “enhanced” version of cognitive behaviour therapy that has been specifically adapted for the treatment of eating disorders. This outpatient treatment helps individuals understand what eating disorders are, why they developed the illness, and treats unstable patterns of eating, negative thoughts about body weight and shape, and underlying issues that maintain the eating disorder (e.g, clinical perfectionism).
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is the leading treatment approach for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and trauma-related injuries. A rigorously studied treatment, CPT is highly effective for those who have experienced traumatic events such as sexual abuse, military combat, or being a witness to violence or death. We work closely with First Responders and WSIB to help people get back to their lives following trauma.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are offering virtual support to our clients via secure video conferencing.
