The Centre for Psychology + Emotion Regulation

Treatment | Research | Consultation

Life-threatening and under-diagnosed, it takes an average of seven years for individuals with an eating disorder to receive evidence-based treatment. Our comprehensive eating disorder programs include individualized treatment from a multidisciplinary team including psychology, psychiatry, dietitians, social work, and psychotherapy. Our team is highly trained in the assessment, advocacy, and treatment of eating disorders supporting both sufferers and caregivers.

Misunderstood and under-treated, individuals with personality disorders require specialized treatment by experts. Our team is intensively trained to provide adherent DBT and Radically Open DBT for those struggling with emotional, interpersonal, and cognitive dysregulation. Our DBT track includes a comprehensive program, skills-only options, and support for family and friends.

Our trauma track is designed to help individuals suffering from PTSD and trauma-related injuries. We work closely with the WSIB, Military and Veterans Affairs, the Encompas Program (OPP), and first responders across the province to provide the highest standard of trauma care. We also specialize in emotional and psychological abuse and trauma, for which we use DBT-PE to treat traumatic invalidation.

LEARN MORE ABOUT PSYCHOLOGICAL ASSESSMENTS

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive, multi-model treatment that was originally designed to treat individuals with chronic suicidal and self-injurious behaviour. Today, it is considered the gold-standard treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) and has evolved into an evidence-based treatment for disorders characterized by emotion dysregulation.

LEARN MORE ABOUT DBT

RO DBT is a ground-breaking and evidence-based treatment for individuals with emotional over-control (e.g., emotional suppression, rigid thinking patterns, inability to relax and be playful, difficulty connecting with others, avoids risks and novelty). Excessive over-control is associated with social isolation and poor interpersonal relations and it contributes to conditions like anorexia nervosa, obsessive-compulsive personality disorder, chronic depression and autistic spectrum disorders.

LEARN MORE ABOUT RO-DBT

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a time-limited (e.g., 6 to 20 sessions), present-focused treatment that focuses on changing negative thoughts and behaviours. From a CBT framework, problematic thoughts (“I am unlovable”) lead to painful emotions (e.g., sadness, shame) that in turn lead to maladaptive behaviour (e.g., isolation). CBT is the treatment of choice for mood and anxiety disorders.

LEARN MORE ABOUT CBT

CBT-E is an “enhanced” version of cognitive behaviour therapy that has been specifically adapted for the treatment of eating disorders. This outpatient treatment helps individuals understand what eating disorders are, why they developed the illness, and treats unstable patterns of eating, negative thoughts about body weight and shape, and underlying issues that maintain the eating disorder (e.g, clinical perfectionism).

LEARN MORE ABOUT CBT-E

Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) is the leading treatment approach for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder and trauma-related injuries. A rigorously studied treatment, CPT is highly effective for those who have experienced traumatic events such as sexual abuse, military combat, or being a witness to violence or death. We work closely with First Responders and WSIB to help people get back to their lives following trauma.
